How to choose a TR19 contractor

Questions to ask

  1. Do you clean to TR19® Grease? Ask them to confirm the whole system is in scope.
  2. Are your technicians GHT qualified? BESA says technicians should hold the Grease Hygiene Technician qualification (BESA).
  3. Are you a member of a BESA / BESCA scheme? This gives third-party verification of your certificate.
  4. Will you test grease deposits before and after?
  5. Will you fit access panels if the ductwork can't be reached?
  6. What insurance do you hold? Ask for public liability cover details.
  7. Can I see a sample post-clean report?
  8. Can you work out of hours so the kitchen isn't closed during service?

Comparing quotes

Make sure every quote covers the same scope – canopy, filters, full duct run and fan – and includes the post-clean report. A cheap quote that only covers the canopy may not satisfy your insurer.
