After a TR19 clean, the contractor should give you a post-clean verification report (often called a TR19 certificate). It is your evidence for insurers, landlords and fire risk assessors.
What a good report usually contains
- Site details, the date of the clean and the technicians who did it.
- A description or schematic of the system, showing which parts were cleaned – canopy, filters, ductwork and fan – and any areas that could not be reached.
- Grease deposit thickness test results before and after cleaning, taken at set points along the system.
- Dated before and after photographs.
- Access panels fitted or needed, and any defects found.
- A recommended date for the next clean.
- The technician's qualification – BESA says those signing off cleaning should hold the Grease Hygiene Technician (GHT) qualification (BESA).
Third-party verification
BESA explains that work by members of its BESCA-audited scheme is registered and generates a certificate giving evidence of third-party verified compliance (BESA).
Warning signs
- No deposit test readings, or only "after" photos.
- Only the canopy and filters listed, with the ductwork not mentioned.
- No mention of areas that couldn't be accessed.
